The last blog

What’s up everyone??

Today is the last blog of the year, so it’s going to be a little more longer than usually is.

My self evaluation of my academic year 2009

Like every starting school year, you don’t come back to the school with the best of the moods, you start with your laziness at the maximum expression and try to change your life style that you use to have on vacations, because summer is so much relaxing that a normal academic year. You probably take a lot of time trying to catch the new rhythm of this kind of life that is so bored. But this is was kind of my first year on the university so it was a whole new world that I started to know this year.

When you come back to your student duties, you feel awful, you have responsibilities again and in my case I don’t like them all, because I have to study or do the homework in times that you are having so much fun that you have to give away all the fun and start getting your nose into the books. However, when a new student year starts, it brings a lot of new things that make you forget about the boring and tedious stuff, such as new friends, new girlfriends, parties, hanging out with your pals and a lot of things like that. You begin to catch the rhythm of that way of life again, but suddenly, the bad things happen: you have a big test and you haven’t studied yet, so the time is running out and there is a lot of things you haven’t checked yet and you must learn them to get a good mark. So this is how the stress starts to show up, and you become worried and tired the whole time. But in a strange way, you can do all the things you planned after all, you felt that the test wasn’t very hard so you can chill out..

And everything goes on and goes on, and goes on… but seems you don’t learnt the lesson at all, because another test is coming and the same thing is happening.

Well, in conclusion, this was my student year on 2009, I passed all my test, but with this situation, studying at the very last moment, and getting stressful, so I highly recommend, don’t follow my example and try to study every day a little, so you can still go to parties, hang out with your friends without getting all the stress that I had. Oh and I almost forgot, do some sports, because sports play a huge rol on the academic side of the students, they make you relax and be a better student. But anyways, like I said, try to be more responsibile that I was this year, I promise I’ll try the next year too =D.

Physical Therapy keeps improving…

Physical Therapy is a discipline that plays an important in role in the medicine area because is focused on people’s rehabilitation, and every day its advancing more and more. In Chile, new attempts are made all the time to make this career better and better, in fact, the University of Chile recently implemented a whole new system for Physical Therapy that includes improvements in the investigation side where physical therapist now can choose an the science side for their job. This makes these professional better valued on the Medicine area, because the patients wouldn’t have to go to the Physician to get sent to the Physical therapist, so this means a HUGE change in the area, because the Physical Therapists won’t depend on the Physicians anymore. But this is a change that I know that is happening in Chile, but I don’t know what is going on the rest of the world.

I hope that the improvements like this one occurs everywhere more often, because I really like this career, in fact if I keep studying this, I’ll probably get interested on the technologic side of the science specialty, because I’ve always dreamed that people that lose limbs or arms because of accidents can get their bodies complete again with out those prosthesis that makes them look different. So basically, in my imagination I’ve always thought that someone sometime has to create like a bionic or biological prosthesis that makes the people look normal to everyone else, and so the person would feel normal too. But I know this sounds a little crazy for our time, but everything evolves slowly, like one step at the time, and I think that giving Physical Therapists the chance of choosing a way into the medical science can mean a really big change in the future… but anyway, this is my dream =).

But enough of these crazy ideas, lets go to another big, real side of the Physical Therapy, the social way. The Physical Therapist job isn’t only the rehabilitation of the function of the injured parts of the body, they play an important role in the mental health of the patient too. The Physical Therapists are the medicine professionals that spend more time with the patients, so it is inevitable make bonds with the people that you are trying to help, and this makes you as a therapist try to rehabilitate the patients in all the areas, but you know that sometimes this is impossible (and this is when the social way comes) so you help on the mental health of the patient so they can accept that they wont be the same as before so they can live their life again happily and hoping that the accident and the consequences of this fatidic event wont hurt too much to the people =)

Well sorry about this blog, it was hard this time if you think is a little weird, I agree I just wrote what came to my mind =)

Money, money, money…

One of the most important things in this World, sadly is the Money. As you may know, money is the source of movement in the world: people works to get it, you can get things you want using it, or you get your food every day expending money to eat.

In my case, I don’t have money issues gratefully, but it isn’t a thing that I have in excess, so I have to be careful with it. I usually go out with no much money, because I’m always afraid of get robbed by someone and take all the money from me (because I had the bad luck once) so I try to don’t go out with too much money so in case I get robbed I don’t loose to much. For that reason I’m always saving some money so I can get something I really want, such clothes, music instruments or that kind of stuff.

But for going out with not too much money, I usually run out of it too soon and I don’t have a credit card or that kind of stuff, so it’s a problem when my friends want to go to the bowling or to the cinema because I’m not carrying the money to expend the tickets to that stuff, and then I get forced to borrow some cash from them, because they wont let me stay on wherever we are and not going to the “fun” place. The problem with this, is the paying back thing, not because I don’t want to pay back but that I forget to, because I’m always carrying some money on me just in case, and it’s usually enough to pay that kind of favours, but like I said I always forget to pay to the people I owe, so I ask to them to tell me that I owe to them some money, and then there is no problem on paying. In the other way, I usually lend some money too, I don’t have problem on doing it, but I have such a fragile memory and I usually forget how much money did I lend and to whom.

Happily, my friends pay me back as soon as they can, so I don’t have to remember that I lent some money to them, but I may not be that lucky all the time so I have to be more careful about it.

Well this was a little of the money and me =)

Problems of My Faculty

The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile

Today I’m going to talk about the faculty where I study. I study Physical Therapy in the University of Chile in the Faculty of Medicine. I really like this faculty because is very beautiful and big, it has some places where you can chill out, study and do some sports, besides this faculty is near the swimming pool where I go and do my training so it’s perfect for me.

But there are some things that I do not like of this place, first of all, this faculty it’s dedicated to form the best Physicians, Physical Therapists, Nurses, Nutritionists, etc of the country, so they work with and for people that need medical help and even though the faculty isn’t implemented for people with problems that need medical help, such as people that can’t walk normally and have problems with going up a simple stair or just people that need of wheelchairs to move from one place to another.

Another problem that I think we have in this faculty, from the students view, are the computers in the library, because there are just a few of them and they are so slow that we call them the Lentiums (or slow-tiums, kind of that =P), so basically that’s a big problem when you have tons of students trying to study and they need a computer to do it, and because if you want to wait for a computer to get free you have to wait like years to get it.

I think there are two of a lot of problems that we can find in this faculty, but I still love it anyway, I’m very proud of studying here, and we will think in ways to improve and fix this faculty, such as parties or lotteries where we can get some money for the cause.

Random theme

Well today the assignment is a random theme, so basically I don’t know what I’m going to talk about yet. But lets see, it’s the end of the week and it has been a very though one, not for the tests or because I had to study a lot but for the amount of work out that I did.
I got tired during the week because I worked out too much my body, such like lifting weights and swimming, making me very tired all the days.
I’m like a sport guy, I like doing a lot of exercise and I a lot of sports, so I’m kind of always active. But from all sports, one of that I like the most is swimming. I usually swim like 3 to 4 times a week only 1 hour each day, because I’m just an amateur in swimming.
I started swimming last year at September or October maybe, till today, but the thing is that I wasn’t very constant with the swimming, because some days I went to swim and some days I didn’t, and that didn’t help me improve my swimming like it would have if I would have swam all the days since September till today. But this year I tried to be more constant and get better at the swim, and for that I started to go to the gym, and do some weight lifting. I started to go the gym on April, and from that time to this day, I have improved a lot, even my own teacher in the gym said it to me so I was very happy =P.

Anyways, like I was saying, I regularly go swimming, and when I can, I go to the gym, but this week I went swimming from Thursday to Friday and I went to the gym those days too, so basically I got really tired with all that exercise, but after all I feel very happy about it, especially because there was a lot of times that I wanted to quit the hard work but I didn’t gave up. And now, I’m glad that my next stop today is home and I will sleep till I can’t sleep anymore because its weekend and the worries aren’t too much =), although I have a big test on Monday, but whatever!, ill rest a lot first =P.

PD: sorry the lack of creativity in this topic, but I didn't know what to write about =/

Where to go

What’s up again!

I was wondering these days where I should take a friend that is coming from a city far away from here and is her first time in Santiago. So I started to figure it out which one are the best places to visit. I wouldn’t take my friend to just one place; I would take her to different places in the day. First in the morning, I would take her to the BuinZoo that it’s a zoo south of Santiago, that it’s very fun because you can feed some animals and get a very close to some of them, the zoo has like a country-side so it’s very peculiar and very nice for starting the day. After that, although don’t know if the same day because it would be exhausting, I would take her to the MIM, that is the Museo Interactivo Mirador, or in english the Interactive Watching Museum where you can do fun experiments and know a little about science in a fun way.

Well that’s a good idea to have some fun, but every trip must have some adrenalin in, so for this I would take my friend to Fantasyland that is an attraction park, where you can find a lot of games and roller coasters where you can find a lot of fun. After that I would take her to have an ice cream in a place that is special but I don’t what’s the name of place but I do know where is it, well the thing is that the ice creams are special because they are natural and exotic flavours so is a nice place to go.

And that’s all I think… oh I forget the night, but I think I tell you the next time, there’s always a restaurant to have a nice dinner, or a nice night club where to hang out =)

Bye!

Music (8)

Music

Well music is a big Word these days, because there are a lot of kinds of music that you can listen. Some people enjoys listening just one kind of music and they show to everyone else what is the style that they like, such a heavy rockers, that are dressed all black with their black T-Shirts and those symbols that they like. Anyways I don’t judge them because their style of music because there are a lot of kinds besides the heavy rockers, such as the reggae people, the hip hop people or even the pop people, but like I said, I don’t judge them because I don’t listen just one kind of music, I like different songs of different styles, some of rock or heavy rock, some of reggae or pop, but I don’t listen just one kind of music. However, there was a time that I was a heavy rocker headbanging on every concert that I went to. It was pretty fun but suddenly I started to get bored of listening to the same songs with the same themes that they talk all the time, and then was when I listened to different styles of music. Reggae caught my ears, because it was so much different of metal or heavy rock, and it made me feel a lot relaxed. That kind of music made me chill out a little bit, so I started to listen more kind of music, and from that day I didn’t pick just one type of music but a lot of them. Now I don’t see what type of music is, but I see if the song likes me or not, so basically you can find in my Ipod from Bob Marley or UB-40 to some of the best rock bands from all times such AC/DC or Guns’n’Roses, and you can find songs of the 80’s and 90’s too, because I keep a lot of classic songs on my lists.

So… in conclusion you can say that I like different styles of musics and a lot of classical songs =)

The country That I would like to go…

What’s up everyone, Today I want to talk to you about a country I would like to go. If I had to pick just one, I don’t really know which one I would pick, but I do know that I want to go to Europe and travel a lot there, then I could tell you which country I liked the most, but for today I’ll try to pick just one. Ok lets see, if you want to go to a country you should speak the language first, or at least a little of it so you can communicate something with the people over there, and you will learn faster and easier a language if you really like it. One of the languages that I like the most is the german, I really like their accent and the way they talk. I have friend that actually lived in Germany for some time and she learned how to speak the german a bit. She also taught me some of the words and how I should say them and that was something I enoyed a lot.
For other side, germany is a very modern country that has improved a lot the way of the Physical Therapy they're using some of the latest technology on the patients to improve their rehabilitation, and that makes me want to go there and learn all that new things that are making the people’s life better so I can know how to use them, so basically I would like to go there and work as a physical therapist, and maybe, just maybe, I’d like to go to the Wolkswagen Factory and get one of those cars because I really like them =).

Good and Bad points of my First Term

What’s up once again!

As you can see I’m back for another English course, and now I’m going to talk about you about how was my first term of Physical Therapy here on the University of Chile.

This first half of the year was full of emotions and good times, sadly there were some bad moments too but nothing of what we can’t get a good experience. I met a lot of good friends, I knew a lot of good and nice people, I learned new things about the human anatomy and how our body works, and I did a lot of sports in my free time.
In fact we played several times football games between the people of physical therapy so we could know each other a little better, sadly we didn’t won much of them but we still had a really good time.
In the academic side, the first term was marked by a subject called Anatomy, that is one of the most difficult subjects when you get into the university because you have to learn a lot stuff in short time, gladly I didn’t have too much problems with it, in fact I think I got one of the best marks of the class, but I don’t have to be cocky about that because not everyone had the same luck that I had with anatomy, sadly a few classmates didn't pass the subject and they will have to make it again next year :(. For this reason and other reasons like this one, you always have to be humble in the way you are, it’s a quality that it’s always appreciated.

Well that’s a little part of what happened on my first term, maybe the next time I’ll tell you more stories about my first half of my first university year =D.

Creativity according to Sir Ken Robinson

Sir Ken Robinson is an internationally recognized leader in the development of innovation and human resources. In this opportunity he talks us about how education kills creativity. He says to us that somehow we all born being pure, without fear of expressing us, but in the way we grow up we start to acquire fear to be wrong, and for that we try to live in a way that we don’t have to take risk and we always play safe.
Picasso once said that “all children are born artist, the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up”, according to Sir Ken Robinson, this happens because every educational system around the world is focused in teaching subjects mathematics, languages, sciences that is to say giving acknowledges to the students, but they don’t worry too much about teaching music or dance, because the educational system was implemented to create people productive in the industries, so they didn’t favour the things that are unproductive in industries. How this affect on the human creativity? every school try to form students that don’t commit mistakes, they always have to be right, and this has a consequence: we start to fear to mistakes, and this means we don’t think in a free way, we are always thinking if the things that we are going to say or do something must be right, so we start to be afraid of expressing us for the possibility of being wrong, and that’s a brake for the human creativity.

This creates people that don’t have too much creativity, because they don’t think in new things but they think in the ways of being productive so they can get a normal and easy life because that’s what is valued in this world, not being creative but being productive.

Finally, the last blog

Blogging has been a really new experience because I didn’t do it before. It’s kind of cool writing about things in the internet, things that you like or you think important in life, is relaxing writing on a computer without worries because you let your inner writer go on without pressure. Because of this, you learn new words to express what you feel, or what you want to say, you expand your vocabulary to new levels.

It’s kind of fun doing a blog, but isn’t too much when you have to write about something that you don’t want, because the words don’t flow around, you get stuck in every sentence, so its a lot difficult writing a whole paragraph when you have trouble writing just one sentence, for example I didn’t have problems at all for writing about a picture I liked, because I liked to write about it, however I got a lot of problem writing about the best in my area because I didn’t know a lot of people related to it.

The other problem it’s the time that you have to do the blog, when you have to write about something that you don’t really like, you see the time passing by you and you only have like 3 words on the blog, you feel the time isn’t much for it. So I think the best solution for this problem its letting the students pick the theme that they want to write. The time that they take for doing the blog would be reduced dramatically because they would be more interested in the things that they write, and that for, the words would flow faster and better.

I think blogs didn’t help me to improve my English, because I’ve been writing a lot, but I don’t know if what I have written its right or wrong so I can’t realize about my mistakes. However, in some way I improved my vocabulary because I have learned new words for doing the blogs, and for that I get a positive experience about this course.

Bloggin in English class is fine if you want to see the students write, and see them how they do it, but like I said before, one disadvantage of this method is that students don’t know what they did wrong, so they wont know what they did wrong or how can they correct their mistakes, the method should include a revision of the blogs or a list of the mistakes so students their self can correct them.

Well that’s what I think, See you next time =)

My ideal job

Like every person in the World, I want to work in something that I really love, where I can spend my whole time doing something that puts food on the table and easily. My ideal job would be something that makes me lose the sense of time, I mean like when you get to the job and time pass very fast that you don’t realize because you are having so much fun with the activity that you are doing. But thinking what would be this job… it’s very hard, maybe some kind of sport, or maybe a computer gamer like some people around the world that are so good at their games that they actually get paid for playing it.
But, seriously, back on earth the ideal job for me would be teaching anatomy here in the University of Chile. I love teaching and I think I would be an excellent teacher, but you need to get very good marks at the subject and that’s something a little hard. By the other hand you must have a very good memory, for knowing all the parts of your body, and what they do and all that kind of stuff, besides you must be clear when you teach, because you will be heard by a lot of students waiting for you to make things as clear as possible for them, so you must be very skilled for being a good teacher.

The difficulty of finding the job depends on what marks did you get in school I think, because if you got a lot of good marks, and you got known by the teachers for that, I don’t think I would be any difficult for getting the job. However, if you do love anatomy but you got low grades and you don’t remember all the names, or you have problems to remember them, it would be a lot difficult… but never impossible, so keep trying hard =)

The best Subject.

This a very hard one, I don’t really know which one is the best subject for me, because there are a lot that i really like, such as anatomy, Physiology, neuroanatomy, etc. But if you make me choose which one is the best, I’d pick Physiology.

Physiology is the subject where you learn how the human body works. The most common function of our bodies as hear, or even see, has their own cellular process and that’s what Physiology teaches you, the different functions of your body and how those functions are produced in a cellular way.
Although Physiology is a subject that is usually taught in 2nd year of every career here on Medicine Faculty, for Physical Therapist is for the students of 1st year because of the curricular innovation. But even though is a very hard subject, I really do like it.

There isn’t just one teacher for our classes, they are changing in every day, so we basically have classes with a lot of teachers, but if you want to know who is the best teacher for me I’d say that are my Friends of medicine. They taught me a lot of things the other day, because we had a test and I didn’t know a thing of physiology!... so they helped me with my studies and then I started to like this subject because I really understood all the things I had written in my notebook =).

Finally, I learnt in this semester how some diseases, that are very common in our life, work and how we can stop them, avoid them and heal them. Because all this, Physiology is the subject I like the most!

Future

Future

Although some people say that World would be ending in 2012, I think we will still be here after that year. So I’m still doing plans for years after that one, such as ending my career, getting a job, find the “true love” =P, and get children and build up a family.

In five years from now, I would like to have finished my career and being working as a Physical Therapist so I can get independency from my family, and make some money for my self and don’t have to be asking to your parents for it. I’d like to buy my own stuff, a car, a loft maybe, and that kind of stuff that people of 24-25 has. Love is a thing I would like to find too, I mean the real one, the person that you would like to marry, and build up a family with, but I don’t want to get marry till 30’s because I think there is too much for live in those years, it’s like the last part of your life where you can be able to do crazy and fun things, travel and meet new people all over the world.

But As I said before, I’d like to be living on my own in five years, I don’t where exactly but it definitely has to be a nice and safe place, a secure neighbourhood that let you walk with no worries by the streets and it has to be near the downtown so I can get everywhere easily and not being travelling like 1-2 hours to get to one place. But for do all these things I said, I must be working as Physical therapist, so I can make the money to live the life I want to live.

Anyways, I don’t really know what is going to happen in five year from now, but I’m sure I will be doing something that I’d like to do =).

Someone that I Look up to!

The Physical Therapist that I admire the most, is Rodolfo Sanzana. Well he is a teacher of us, he teaches us Anatomy, a very hard subject and he is really good at knowing all the names and telling to us the special parts of the body that we should learn for the tests and for our future as Physical Therapist. Including all these things that I mentioned, he is very young for being a Teacher of The University of Chile, and for that reason I think he is very close to the students, so we don’t hesitate when we have to ask for something that we didn’t understand, that makes him the best teacher, being so kind and close to us.

Besides all of that, I like him because he always waves to me when he is around hallways of the faculty, he doesn’t look to other places when he knows that you are coming to evade you, he is a really nice guy. Probably I will teach anatomy in this faculty too, I like that class a lot, and I like teaching a lot, so if I become a teacher of the university of Chile, I’ll not try to be as Rodolfo Sanzana, because I think everyone has a different style of being them self but I will try to keep those things I like of him, specially, being nice, gentle and close to the students.

Why I chosen this career =)

Physical Therapy.

I’m studying this career for a very personal reason, my cousin. Well he was born with a genetic problem that is called “Bot foot”, and basically consists in a malformation of his foot that would cause problem in the future, like he wouldn’t walk if he wouldn’t had a surgery. Anyways, that’s the main reason, but I do like a lot this career because it had to do a lot with sports, and that’s an area that I really love.

The Physical Therapists, mostly help people to recover the function of parts of their bodies that have been injured or damaged by some reason, such and accident, genetic problem, etc. So they do help people on Rehabilitation, so they can do what they used to do before the accident, or at least, recover some of the functionalities of their part of their body that got injured or damaged.

We actually need a lot of toys, because Physical Therapists use to work with children, and they don’t like to do exercises by their self because they get bored and wont work to get better. Because of this, we use toys such a big balls that make them workout some part of their bodies and they don’t get bored at all. They don’t realize that they are playing to get they body a lot better =).

I like those toys as a favourite tool because they do help a lot, and they make the patients get a lot better.

Swimming

This is a picture of Michael Phelps at the Olympics last year. Well this is one of the pictures that I like the most because it’s about swimming and it inspires me a lot

Well I don’t know exactly who took this picture, but I do know that He/She had to be a professional photographer, because as you can see it’s a very good picture, and when I look at it, I feel like I want to swimming in that second. Anyways, Michael Phelps is one of my idols, but there is someone else too that is an inspiration too: Ian Thorpe. He beated Michaels Phelps 5 years ago, in the Athens 2004 Olympics, and I still remember that moment when I saw that competition and I started to like swimming, Although I couldn’t swim until last year. Anyways, since September last year I became a regular swimmer and now I try harder every day so I can improve and go to competitions, and Who knows?... maybe win some tournaments =).

Useful website

Hi everyone.

Today's assingment is writting about a useful website for our carrer. I think a very good website for all of us, not only from Physical Therapy, is http://www.isiknowledge.com/ because is very used by most of the people here in our school.

This site is like a google where you can search for jobs or homework, but is not all like google exactly. This website is for research/investigation's works, so you can get support material for whatever work you would be doing. It's very useful when you need to find some material to prepare a speech, or an investigation, so if you want to look for something trivial or comun in your life, it's better for you to use google =P.

I found this website through a subject that we have in Physical Therapy, and it's called Bibliographic Research, and here I learnt how to use it because it's a little hard to learn. But after all, is a very good website, I use it every time, when I have to study about a specific theme, such as Disnea, Fractures or prepare a speech for any of our subjects.

I really recommend this website =)

Piece of Technology

Think about something useful in your life... well my "thing" is my computer. For me, the computer is very important in my life because I do a lot of things in the comp, such as chatting, studying, playing, well... mostly get entertainmet. It's a very useful machine =).
I got it long time ago, like 6 years ago or something like that in my birthday, so I was pretty excited about the present.
But like I said, I mostly get entertainment with it, so it's a bit of a problem when studying time comes because when I get to the comp, I always talk to somebody on messenger or see some stuff in facebook so basically I waste a lot of time doing that stuff instead of being studying... besides that I think a computer is a very good tool.
I use it every day, because I always have to be seeing auladigital (it's a web site where teachers upload the classes power points).
As you can see, a computer can entertain you a lot, not only playing, seeing videos or things like that, but it works for studying too.
Without it, I would spend a lot of time in the university, studying, because is I would get bored at home and I couldn't be able to material for studying there.

Maybe is a good idea get the computer out of my life, so I can improve my marks on classes =P.

A litle about me =)

Whats up!
i`m Rodrigo, i`m 19 and i´m studying Phsical therapy in the University of Chile.

Well i live in santiago since... forever =p. Whereabouts exactly ?? in Quilicura, that's north of santiago for the ones that didn't know.

The things i like:

I like to study ... Du'h... (joke). No, really, i like music, playing and listening (reggaeton of course xP), swimming and all that stuff that kids of our age do, such as getting up early, getting home early, don't drink and such things (xD). I like to hang out with my friends too, talk to them and go to parties with them of course, you should always have some spare time for your friends =P, but seriously, you must have a good amount of time for studying and taking care of the classes , you have to study a lot to get what you want in life =).

Anyways... you see i'm kind of outgoing guy, so dont be shy to get knowing me =)
