Creativity according to Sir Ken Robinson

Sir Ken Robinson is an internationally recognized leader in the development of innovation and human resources. In this opportunity he talks us about how education kills creativity. He says to us that somehow we all born being pure, without fear of expressing us, but in the way we grow up we start to acquire fear to be wrong, and for that we try to live in a way that we don’t have to take risk and we always play safe.
Picasso once said that “all children are born artist, the problem is to remain an artist as we grow up”, according to Sir Ken Robinson, this happens because every educational system around the world is focused in teaching subjects mathematics, languages, sciences that is to say giving acknowledges to the students, but they don’t worry too much about teaching music or dance, because the educational system was implemented to create people productive in the industries, so they didn’t favour the things that are unproductive in industries. How this affect on the human creativity? every school try to form students that don’t commit mistakes, they always have to be right, and this has a consequence: we start to fear to mistakes, and this means we don’t think in a free way, we are always thinking if the things that we are going to say or do something must be right, so we start to be afraid of expressing us for the possibility of being wrong, and that’s a brake for the human creativity.

This creates people that don’t have too much creativity, because they don’t think in new things but they think in the ways of being productive so they can get a normal and easy life because that’s what is valued in this world, not being creative but being productive.

Finally, the last blog

Blogging has been a really new experience because I didn’t do it before. It’s kind of cool writing about things in the internet, things that you like or you think important in life, is relaxing writing on a computer without worries because you let your inner writer go on without pressure. Because of this, you learn new words to express what you feel, or what you want to say, you expand your vocabulary to new levels.

It’s kind of fun doing a blog, but isn’t too much when you have to write about something that you don’t want, because the words don’t flow around, you get stuck in every sentence, so its a lot difficult writing a whole paragraph when you have trouble writing just one sentence, for example I didn’t have problems at all for writing about a picture I liked, because I liked to write about it, however I got a lot of problem writing about the best in my area because I didn’t know a lot of people related to it.

The other problem it’s the time that you have to do the blog, when you have to write about something that you don’t really like, you see the time passing by you and you only have like 3 words on the blog, you feel the time isn’t much for it. So I think the best solution for this problem its letting the students pick the theme that they want to write. The time that they take for doing the blog would be reduced dramatically because they would be more interested in the things that they write, and that for, the words would flow faster and better.

I think blogs didn’t help me to improve my English, because I’ve been writing a lot, but I don’t know if what I have written its right or wrong so I can’t realize about my mistakes. However, in some way I improved my vocabulary because I have learned new words for doing the blogs, and for that I get a positive experience about this course.

Bloggin in English class is fine if you want to see the students write, and see them how they do it, but like I said before, one disadvantage of this method is that students don’t know what they did wrong, so they wont know what they did wrong or how can they correct their mistakes, the method should include a revision of the blogs or a list of the mistakes so students their self can correct them.

Well that’s what I think, See you next time =)

My ideal job

Like every person in the World, I want to work in something that I really love, where I can spend my whole time doing something that puts food on the table and easily. My ideal job would be something that makes me lose the sense of time, I mean like when you get to the job and time pass very fast that you don’t realize because you are having so much fun with the activity that you are doing. But thinking what would be this job… it’s very hard, maybe some kind of sport, or maybe a computer gamer like some people around the world that are so good at their games that they actually get paid for playing it.
But, seriously, back on earth the ideal job for me would be teaching anatomy here in the University of Chile. I love teaching and I think I would be an excellent teacher, but you need to get very good marks at the subject and that’s something a little hard. By the other hand you must have a very good memory, for knowing all the parts of your body, and what they do and all that kind of stuff, besides you must be clear when you teach, because you will be heard by a lot of students waiting for you to make things as clear as possible for them, so you must be very skilled for being a good teacher.

The difficulty of finding the job depends on what marks did you get in school I think, because if you got a lot of good marks, and you got known by the teachers for that, I don’t think I would be any difficult for getting the job. However, if you do love anatomy but you got low grades and you don’t remember all the names, or you have problems to remember them, it would be a lot difficult… but never impossible, so keep trying hard =)

The best Subject.

This a very hard one, I don’t really know which one is the best subject for me, because there are a lot that i really like, such as anatomy, Physiology, neuroanatomy, etc. But if you make me choose which one is the best, I’d pick Physiology.

Physiology is the subject where you learn how the human body works. The most common function of our bodies as hear, or even see, has their own cellular process and that’s what Physiology teaches you, the different functions of your body and how those functions are produced in a cellular way.
Although Physiology is a subject that is usually taught in 2nd year of every career here on Medicine Faculty, for Physical Therapist is for the students of 1st year because of the curricular innovation. But even though is a very hard subject, I really do like it.

There isn’t just one teacher for our classes, they are changing in every day, so we basically have classes with a lot of teachers, but if you want to know who is the best teacher for me I’d say that are my Friends of medicine. They taught me a lot of things the other day, because we had a test and I didn’t know a thing of physiology!... so they helped me with my studies and then I started to like this subject because I really understood all the things I had written in my notebook =).

Finally, I learnt in this semester how some diseases, that are very common in our life, work and how we can stop them, avoid them and heal them. Because all this, Physiology is the subject I like the most!

Future

Future

Although some people say that World would be ending in 2012, I think we will still be here after that year. So I’m still doing plans for years after that one, such as ending my career, getting a job, find the “true love” =P, and get children and build up a family.

In five years from now, I would like to have finished my career and being working as a Physical Therapist so I can get independency from my family, and make some money for my self and don’t have to be asking to your parents for it. I’d like to buy my own stuff, a car, a loft maybe, and that kind of stuff that people of 24-25 has. Love is a thing I would like to find too, I mean the real one, the person that you would like to marry, and build up a family with, but I don’t want to get marry till 30’s because I think there is too much for live in those years, it’s like the last part of your life where you can be able to do crazy and fun things, travel and meet new people all over the world.

But As I said before, I’d like to be living on my own in five years, I don’t where exactly but it definitely has to be a nice and safe place, a secure neighbourhood that let you walk with no worries by the streets and it has to be near the downtown so I can get everywhere easily and not being travelling like 1-2 hours to get to one place. But for do all these things I said, I must be working as Physical therapist, so I can make the money to live the life I want to live.

Anyways, I don’t really know what is going to happen in five year from now, but I’m sure I will be doing something that I’d like to do =).

Someone that I Look up to!

The Physical Therapist that I admire the most, is Rodolfo Sanzana. Well he is a teacher of us, he teaches us Anatomy, a very hard subject and he is really good at knowing all the names and telling to us the special parts of the body that we should learn for the tests and for our future as Physical Therapist. Including all these things that I mentioned, he is very young for being a Teacher of The University of Chile, and for that reason I think he is very close to the students, so we don’t hesitate when we have to ask for something that we didn’t understand, that makes him the best teacher, being so kind and close to us.

Besides all of that, I like him because he always waves to me when he is around hallways of the faculty, he doesn’t look to other places when he knows that you are coming to evade you, he is a really nice guy. Probably I will teach anatomy in this faculty too, I like that class a lot, and I like teaching a lot, so if I become a teacher of the university of Chile, I’ll not try to be as Rodolfo Sanzana, because I think everyone has a different style of being them self but I will try to keep those things I like of him, specially, being nice, gentle and close to the students.
